Nick & Conchi. Great site and information. Thanks. I see you are willing to send a spreadsheet of costs and lodgings. We are planning the walk and would love a copy. Would you mind but don't know how to give you my address or your email? So I've sent this anonymous which may just mean I don't know how these sites work!!!Thanks Norm from Australia

Your blog is SO useful...I'm planning on doing Via de la Plata this May, and was wondering if I could get in touch via email to get some first hand information? Comment back on my blog if it's not too much trouble.
Hi. I am going to walk VDLP in May and I have a question. Most websites says that it takes about 6 weeks to walk from Seville to Santiago but you did it in 8. Is 6 weeks to optimistic?
Sincerely
Peter, from Denmark
Hello Peter,
Our 8-week elapsed time was a bit generous. That included taking the week of Semana Santa off from walking and an extra 4 days of walking from Santiago to Finisterre. The total number of days walking from Sevilla to Santiago was 47, or approximately 21 km/day of walking. Apart from the week of Semana Santa off, we only took 3 rest days before reaching Santiago -- roughly at the one-quarter, one-half and three-quarter marks in Caceres, Salamanca and Puebla de Sanabria.
We were fortunate to have the time available to walk at this pace. We decided to take Semana Santa off for a few reasons. We just happened to be at Caceres at the beginning of Semana Santa and have friends who live there. The refugios fill quickly that week because it is a popular holiday and a number of people walk a segment of the camino that week. Also, we arrived at Caceres after 14 consecutive days of walking and our feet needed a rest. Finally, we wanted to visit friends in Portugal, and from Caceres it was a convenient bus ride to Setubal. We returned to Caceres a week later and resumed the walk from there.
Without that extended break, we would have completed the walk in 50 days overall at our pace, including the 3 rest days. Basically, 7 weeks. It felt like the right pace to us, but I know other people have done it in less time. To tell you the truth, I'd love to stretch it to 9 weeks to spend some extra time in cities like Merida, Caceres, Salamanca, Zamora, Ourense and a few of the very pretty small towns on the route.
¡Buen Camino!
